Amazing young voices, "pie Jesus"
These amazing young voices scored a hit with "Pie Jesu," arranged by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I remember young people in the audience screaming like this when the Beatles performed on the Ed Sullivan show back in 1964. I think our young people today show much more discrimination! Enjoy!
I first published this post on August 24, 2013. Considering that these three wonderful voices had never sung together until the week of the competition made the performance even more amazing. One of the judges, shock jock Howard Stern looks as though he has been transported to a new, transcendent realm.
The music is from Lloyd Webber's Requiem for orchestra and solo voices. A requiem is a service of music for a dead person. The lyrics for "Pie Jesus," sung by Forte on America's Got Talent, are as follows in Latin, with an English translation:
Pie Jesu,
Qui tollis peccata mundi,
Dona eis requiem. Gentle Jesus,
Who takes away the sins of the world,
Give them rest. Agnus Dei,
Qui tollis peccata mundi,
Dona eis requiem,
Sempiternam
Requiem. Lamb of God,
Who takes away the sins of the world,
Give them rest,
Everlasting rest.
