Hallelujah in the Department Store
In a wonderful, memorable "random act of culture," the Opera Company of Philadelphia and over 650 area choristers met at Macy's Center in Philadelphia in 2010 and performed "Hallelujah" from Handel's Messiah for the sheer beauty of it. The magnificent pipe organ apparently is built into the store. The public's reaction is amazing. 6 minutes.
My family and I participated in a similar event at Scottsdale's Fashion Square a few years ago. Following the performance the six of us then performed the piece again near the north entrance to a small but admiring crowd who gathered to hear us.
