Benefits of Arts Education 9: Speed up cognitive development

Studying music seems to have helped accelerate the cognitive development, and particularly the auditory- and speech and language-processing abilities, of a group of young children in Los Angeles. The study focused on economically disadvantaged, bilingual households (most are Latino, one is Korean) in Southern California, starting when the children were 6 and 7.

Those are the findings in a five-year, longitudinal study published in 2016 in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience.

Parents and schools are wise to protect from cuts music education courses in their childrens' schools.
